Fractional odds are the nearest simple fraction (denominators up to 100), as books show them. Implied probability includes the book's margin.

Three ways to write one price

Decimal, fractional and American odds are three notations for the same thing: how much a winning bet returns. Decimal odds count the whole return per unit staked, stake included. Fractional odds count only the winnings per unit staked. American odds count the winnings on 100 (positive odds) or the stake needed to win 100 (negative odds).

One price, four ways: decimal 2.50, fractional 6/4 (also written 3/2), American +150, implied probability 40%. A stake of 10 returns 25 in every case: 15 of winnings plus the 10 staked.

The formulas

From fractional a/b to decimal:

decimal = a / b + 1

From American to decimal:

+A: decimal = A / 100 + 1   |   -A: decimal = 100 / A + 1

From decimal to American:

decimal ≥ 2: +(decimal - 1) × 100   |   decimal < 2: -100 / (decimal - 1)

Implied probability, from decimal:

probability = 1 / decimal

Implied probability and the margin

Implied probability is what the odds say the chance is. It is not the real chance: a book adds a margin, so the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market add up to more than 1. Take two outcomes priced at 1.91 each: 0.5236 + 0.5236 = 1.047. The 0.047 (4.7%) on top is the book's overround. Our no-vig calculator takes it out and shows the fair odds.

When the best prices for every outcome, taken from different books, have implied probabilities that add up to less than 1, the market has a surebet: stake each outcome in the right proportion and every result returns more than the total staked. The surebet calculator does that split.

Prices that are still there

A calculator is only as good as the odds you type into it. Arbistoteles scans 10 crypto sportsbooks prematch and re-reads every leg of a surebet at its book before it shows as confirmed. The free account shows up to 3 live confirmed surebets of 0.99% or less.

Questions

How do I convert fractional odds to decimal?
Divide the first number by the second and add 1. 5/2 is 5 / 2 + 1 = 3.50; 4/6 is 4 / 6 + 1 = 1.67. Evens (1/1) is 2.00.
How do I convert American odds to decimal?
Positive American odds: divide by 100 and add 1, so +150 is 2.50. Negative American odds: divide 100 by the number without its sign and add 1, so -200 is 1.50.
What is implied probability?
The chance the odds price in: 1 / decimal odds. Odds of 2.50 imply 40%. Add up every outcome of a market at one book and you get more than 1: the extra is the book's margin.
Which odds format is best?
They all say the same thing. Decimal is easiest for maths because it already includes the stake: stake x odds is what comes back. Most crypto sportsbooks and the rest of Europe use decimal, the UK uses fractional and the US uses American.
